Pit Bull Appreciation Day 2014!

Pit Bull Awareness Day was on Saturday, but a local rescue, Bully Paws, hosted their 5th Annual Pit Bull Appreciation Day on Sunday. There were Pit Bull groups, lots of dogs with their people, a picnic, a raffle...and Ambassador Pit Bull Alliance was there!  We were doing face painting, doggie tattoos, and free microchips.  I was the lucky person who got to implant the chips and we did over a dozen dogs in just a couple of hours.  It was a really great day!

Me sitting behind the microchip table talking to my daughter
(in the black hoodie) and another volunteer before the dogs lined
up to get chipped.

Admiral enjoyed getting tons of attention from people and his girlfriend, Kaida, and snubbed me for making him wear his frog costume almost the whole day.

We also did our "How To Approach A Dog" presentation and, even among a huge group of seasoned dog owners, I had a couple of people tell me they hoped their husband/boyfriend/kids paid attention because they are sick of telling them to settle down when they greet dogs.  I was kind of surprised by that, but glad we send a message that needs to be heard.

The best thing about this event, though, is that even with a lot of dogs in close quarters, they were ALL very well behaved. There was not a single scuffle during the entire five hours we were there. As a matter of fact, the only time I heard any distressing sounds was when I stuck big needles in dogs to microchip them. (Yes, I felt like a mean, horrible lady.)

This weekend my daughter and I will be at Home 4 the Holidays with APBA at Reston Town Center. Neither one of us can wait!
