Many people have a bucket list. You know, a list of things they want to do before they die. Well, I have recently come up with a bucket list of my own. And, of course, me being me, it's all animal related. It's my Rescue Bucket List.
Of course there are placed I'd like to visit. I want to go to Best Friends. I want to take a class from BAD RAP. I'd like to visit with legislators of states that have BSL and have them meet Admiral (though he probably couldn't come since he'd be illegal...there are some logistics to work out there...).
Then there are things I'd like to accomplish. There's small stuff like organizing a heartworm testing clinic. There's medium stuff like teaching a class about basic ownership, even though I've never taught anything in my life. Or, having my own public forum to write about the kind of stuff I write here, except it'll have an audience, while this blog doesn't have much of one. Then there's big stuff like acquiring a facility where I can house pit bull type dogs until they are adopted. Foster homes are so hard to find, but recruiting people to work with dogs in a shelter of sorts would be pretty easy. Also, I'd like to offer rehoming assistance to people who need it; steer them in the right direction and offer guidance. Kind of hold their hand through the process so they are never uncertain that they're doing it right.
The thing about all these bucket items is that they take a lot of time to pull off. It takes networking and building relationships. It takes a good mind for business. It probably needs to become a 501 (c) 3, because people don't take you seriously without one. And honestly? I suck at all of those things. I can be a decision maker and call the shots, but I'm not a people person. I suck at networking. I'm more of a worker bee than a business person. And going through the 501 process sounds like torture.
I can try to work with existing groups that do the things I want to do, but there isn't one that does them all. Somebody should start one. And let me know when you're ready. I'll be the first in line to volunteer.
